Khruangbin was like a sexy jam session

Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Houston, Texas, formed in 2009 with Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. By the summer of 2019, the trio had been on tour for nearly three-and-a-half years, playing to audiences across North and South America, Europe, and southeast Asia behind its acclaimed albums The Universe Smiles Upon You, Con Todo El Mundo, and Mordechai. Garnering glowing praise from The New York Times, W Magazine, Billboard, The Los Angeles Times, The FADER, Khruangbin released their very first remix album, Mordechai Remixes, on Dead Oceans, in association with Night Time Stories, Ltd in 2021. Each remixer on Mordechai Remixes has a musical or cosmic connection to Khruangbin and remixers included Kadhja Bonet, Ginger Root, Knxwledge, Natasha Diggs, Soul Clap, Quantic, Felix Dickinson, Ron Trent, Mang Dynasty, Harvey Sutherland. Khruangbin worked with Grammy-winning R&B singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, for two groundbreaking collaborative EPs, Texas Sun & Texas Moon. Further extending the lone star state's sonic possibilities, the sister EPs pensively examines Texas' musical perception, while paying homage to the marriage of country and R&B that's become synonymous with the region.

Sunday, June 2 was the third and final night of the Khruangbin performances at History. This was the third time I've seen the band. First was at Danforth Music Hall in Nov 2018, then at RBC Echo Beach in August 2022, and now June 2024. This band is a sublime trio of consummate musicians. Definitely my favourite band of the last 5-6 years. Their sound is brilliant and the sound system at History made them sound the best I've ever heard. Definitely one of my top 10 shows of all time.
Fantastic performance. History, the venue is problematic. The sound is great but the big flat area is a drag almost everyone under 5’10” is standing on the stairs to try and see the act and no, I’m not gonna spend three times the price to get a box if you’re lucky, you can get there early and stand on the 3 foot or so elevated area and lean on the railing at least. Dancing is fun, but mostly a concert there means you’re standing for three hours. Drake, what were you thinking?
It's my first time at History and seeing this band. Oh my, what an insane show! It's such a good band to see live hopefully they come back again soon. Even the opening band was great!
Once of the best live shows i’ve seen in a while. Barely anyone recording everyone enjoying the tunes. Real music is here baby!!!
Amazing performance, one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen. History is also a great venue to get right up close and the sound mix is really dialed in. W As a gigging musician I was blown away by the musicality and vibe of Khruangbin. I’m 100% catching them live again.
Sound was excellent, staff was very helpful and friendly.
This was my first time at History. When I entered the venue I was surprised at how nice the stage and space was. It was very classy and cool from the air conditioning. As 9:00 approached and Khrungbin came on, the crowd became EXTREMELY crowded with essentially no room to move anywhere. We were packed back to front and shoulder to shoulder. The air become hot and stagnant and I felt the lack of oxygen and had to remove myself because I was on the verge of passing out. I hope for future shows that maybe less tickets are sold or that the air conditioning continue to be pumped through the show to ensure people don’t pass out due to air flow.
Fantastic band in a wonderful venue...each night was differnt but all performances outstanding...sound was perfect...thouroughly enjoyable...hope they return next year.
Too cool. I’ll see them again and again. I hope they don’t get bigger but of course they will
