Loved the Decemberist’s live show at the Sony Theatre. Acoustics were great, seating unobstructed and the opening act was a perfect fit. Even with his vocals getting horse it was a spectacular show, highly recommend seeing this band live!
I've been a fan of their music from the start, but for one reason or another, had not been able to attend a live show until now. I'd heard their shows were great and a lot of fun, but never did I expect it to be THAT great! The interaction with the crowd and their amazing storytelling skills and, of course, the music... it ranks among my top-ten favourite live shows, even including arena concerts!
First time I saw them live despite owning the majority of their catalogue and enjoyed the entire show. The set list was excellent and included some of my favourite songs. The songs from I'll Be Your Girl sounded much better live without the over production of the LP which I think ruins that album. Colin Meloy is an audience engaging front man and singer, the band are excellent musicians. Will definitely see them again when they next pass by this way.
The Decemberists are true performers. They play and sing as well live as on the album and always have superb sets.
I was blown away by the energy and feel-good attitude of this band. They were really enjoyable to watch, interactive with the fans, and they had an unforgettable encore that blew me away.
I was lucky enough not get the VIP package and join the sounds check and do a q/a with the band. They were awesome. Played 'January Hymn' and 'June Hymn' on request. The opener was Eleanor Friedberger... she was, well, odd. She was good but then abruptly left part way through her final song leaving the crowd going "whaaat?” Oh well… The band came on right on time and brought it. The show was energetic, engaging, interactive> the Band is so tight - they’re all incredible musicians. It ran ~2hrs with 2 encores. The final encore was “The Mariners Revenge Song” and they release a massive blow-up whale into the crow…. good fun. The only complaint is the seats… The Sony Centre has put these goofy cup holders on the back of the seats in front and and since each row is staggered (seats are not right in front of the next) they’re totally in the way. This made it nearly impossible to sit like a normal person. Im 6’ and that sucked. Overall the show was one of the best Ive seen in a very long time.Cant wait to see them again!
I definitely see this froup again. Great music, great show, great venue and great seats!!
I’ve been enjoying their music for a decade and they still are one of the best live bands. Amazing musicians and they know how to entertain!!
I hadn't read about the Decemberists' shows before going, but apparently they are well known for their audience participation during encores. This show had 2. It was a great experience overall.
