DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS IN CONCERT:

Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have a penchant for tradition, recording their studio albums in analog and insisting on releasing their records on vinyl. The band's traditional approach extends to their beloved live concerts, where craft and musicianship take center stage and marathon sets are the norm. The Truckers may orbit just under the mainstream's radar, but their devoted followers wouldn't have it any other way — as one of the best-kept secrets in music, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their intimate 2014 tour dates in support of English Oceans, their tenth studio album.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1996, the Drive-By Truckers' path to success was slow but steady, aided by a grassroots online presence and their constant touring. Following the release of their first two albums Gangstabilly (1998) and Pizza Deliverance (1999), the band embarked on their first US tour, further added to their reputation as consummate performers with electrifying live sets. 2005's The Dirty South marked the band's first appearance on the Billboard 200, which the band has steadily climbed with each subsequent release. Following the release of their tenth studio album English Oceans in 2014, the band will hit the road for another rollicking tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Once again DBT do not disappoint. This is a band that puts out excellent albums, and a rare occurrence where they are even better live."

"I have seen DBT 30+ times and they always make me look around for the next show! I love their energy and how they play off each other! I have never been to a bad show and this one was no different."

"As always, DBT kept me smiling and singing. Hood and Cooley took turns telling us our favorite yarns, up close and personal."

  • Truckers raad show spectacular!

by Bones on 2024-10-25The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

If you want to revise your view of the American South, The Southern Rock Opera by the Drive by Truckers would fill in the history, the culture and politics leading them to write songs like the 'feud' between Neil Young and Ronnie Van Zant, the reign of George Wallace and a myriad of other topics pertinent to 40 years of Alabama/Georgia living. Delivered with emotion and passion, the lead singers trade off songs and the band is tight and cooks up raw bluesy rock and roll. Wish they didn't have the seats in the venue! And sweet, they ended with Rockin in the Free World. Speaking of seats Ticketmaster, what's with the 4-5 completely empty rows middle of the centre of the floors!! Look bad for the band and the venue?

  • Love DBT

by Deal Queen on 2024-10-25The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

This is a great band and they put on a nice show as expected! Cooley is my favourite singer of the two leads, not sure if he just wasn’t putting it all out there or if the mike was not adjusted well enough or if it was the sound crew’s neglect but his singing was very mumbled, could not discern the lyrics. Also wondered why this was a seated event - those guys rock and I would have liked to move with the music. And… I ended up with a parking ticket ☹️ - there is sooo little parking around. Tough for someone from outside the city to attend. But love DBT!!

  • Always go to the show

by Shane on 2024-10-25The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Drive by Truckers performed the Southern Rock Opera. They were on fire. You will not see a better live act. They write great stories. Very relatable, they play with heart. Go see them when you can!

  • The sound in the balcony was far too loud and muffled.

by JP on 2022-05-07The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

The sound quality and lighting was poor in the upper section of the venue. It was far too loud and distorted ....... and I like loud music! The vocals were inaudible throughout. People were observed leaving 40 minutes into the show (hopefully the sound was better on the floor.) The stage lighting also did not work for the upper level as the band members faces could not be seen. We've seen Drive-By Truckers before and the sound was never like this. Unfortunately, we left after an hour-and-a-half because the show was just not what we were looking forward to.

  • Great show by the Truckers

by Townie Jon on 2022-04-30The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

We greatly enjoyed the Drive By Truckers, more than two solid hours of music that spanned many of their albums, plus a few from the upcoming release. From looking at set lists, it looks like DBT is putting on a different show every night, not dialling it in at all. Unfortunately, the opening act, Lydia Loveless, left us feeling a bit cold.

  • Hank done it this way

by Millionbuckmicturator on 2022-04-28The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Wring the regret, broken dreams, stale beer and sweat out of a Toppers' bar rag into an agar culture. Wire the petri dish to whatever busted ol amp is laying around. Apply liberal jolts of pawnshop guitar peddle feedback. Keep the humidity up long enough and then forget it all as a bad metaphor. Much easier and far more fun to enjoy DBT live. Like most rock bands they benefit from brass.

  • Southern Rock Opera (20 Years Later)

by Randy L on 2022-04-27The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I took my 22 year old son who enjoyed it immensely, as did I. The band was definitely in a rocking mood-- highlights included an incendiary "Ronnie and Neil" followed by a volcanic "Lookout Mountain" I was happy they played "Rosemary with a Bible and a Gun" one of my favorite of their more recent songs. My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that I wish they had sprinkled in a few acoustic songs, such as "Perfect Timing" It was great to be at a concert again, my first since September of 2019.

  • Great Rock Show!

by SRM on 2022-04-27The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Seen DBT a dozen times and this was a Top-3 show. Setlist was killer. Really liked the new songs. Band was super tight and energy was consistent and very high (especially for a Sunday). Well done!

  • The vocals and instruments sound was extremely bad…

by Steve Daniels on 2022-04-27The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

I believe the source of the problem was an inexperienced sound engineer managing the sound board. I’ve seen dozens of shows with similar vocals and instrument arrangements and the sound quality was can be good for the Danforth Music Hall…it definitely was not for the DBT band and show.

  • Great but no encore

    by D. R. on 2022-04-25Rating: 3 out of 5

The show was really good, crowd was smallish but enthusiastic. 27 songs in most shows across USA and only 21 in Ottawa/no encore. Disappointed in that re: missed some great music.
