About

KIM SIMMONDS IN CONCERT:

Blues-rock guitarist Kim Simmonds never fails to get audiences grooving along to his hyper-charged boogie-woogie sound. The mastermind behind British blues outfit Savoy Brown, this virtuoso delivers crunchy tones and searing licks that recall the classic ‘60s rock sound. With an ear for sweeping melodies and a knack for red-hot riffs, Simmonds gets into extended guitar workouts on crowd-pleasers like “Louisiana Blues”, “Natural Man”, and “Tell Mama”. Whether he’s reinventing traditional blues favorites or taking a turn on classics from his Savoy Brown days, Kim Simmonds gets old fans and new rocking out every time he takes the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in 1947, Kim Simmonds taught himself to play the blues by spending countless hours practicing along to his older brother’s record collection. He soaked up each soulful note and mastered the six-string before beginning to make his rounds in the London club scene in 1965. It was that same year that a 19-year-old Simmonds formed Savoy Brown, a seminal blues-rock outfit that fit perfectly in the scene that produced The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, and Cream. The group's 1969 record Blue Matter was a watershed moment, enabling them to tour the US for the first time. The band released albums and toured throughout the remainder of the ‘70s, becoming a staple of rock radio and a high-grossing touring unit in the process. After releasing more than 50 albums as a member of Savoy Brown, Simmonds finally struck out on his own with 1997’s appropriately titled Solitaire. Since then he’s continued to perform both solo and with Savoy Brown, and his guitar skills have remained as impressive as ever.

Kim Simmonds is the only remaining original member of Savoy Brown but with this bass player and drummer he forms a tight line up. He played a least one song each from various albums and every one sounded fresh and well done. See them if you get the chance!
