The older the better. He keep the audience engaged with beautiful music and good anecdotes/jokes.

    Not so grumpy tour

by Allan on 2019-10-04The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

First off, Rick is a phenomenal keyboardist, and he made that Steinway dance. And therein lies my underwhelment. I was anticipating a follow up to his “Grumpy Old Man” DVD with a few synths and all, rather than a solo piano. But therein lies the pure artistry. Also, his standup had me in stitches. For nearly two hours with no break, it was a worthy show. As for the venue, it was convenient, easy to find parking (on a Sunday), and classically mature. However, the seats need work. I was squirming after the first 45 minutes. Should another favoured performance come up, they won’t stop me. Cheers!

    Outstanding!

by J. F. on 2019-10-02The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I have been a Rick Wakeman fan for decades, from his early years with Yes in 1971. I saw him with Jon Anderson and other Yes members at Massey Hall a few years ago and he was great. I was surprised when we went into the Danforth Music Hall to see only a grand piano on stage, as I was so used to him as a band member with a large keyboard setup, including B3 organ, synths and a stand mounted piano. We were enthralled with his piano chops and composition talent. He played for most of the almost 2 hours, with delightful and funny stories about his music and life, including how he was a composer/studio musician on many of my fave songs by famous artists like Cat Stevens, David Bowie, Elton John and others. In short, I highly recommend this concert!

    What talent

by tgtjkj on 2019-10-02The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Without any band, it was only Rick. He pulled it off remarably. Just a piano. I always thought of him with all these synthesizers as well as a piano. This guy is definitely among the very best piano players. However, he is also a very good comedian, communicator and certainly knows how to work a crowd. This was demonstrated before every song that he played. To top it off, he also has 2 very successful books. Amazing!

    Disapointing

by Habfan on 2019-10-02The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

The guy is famous for playing layers of sound on multiple keyboards at the same time. And all we get is an entire concert of acoustic piano and only about 25% of YES and his albums. He is an accomplished pianist and at least he is a funny story teller. Pretty disappointing though.

    A master class

by timlil on 2019-10-02The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I have been a YES fan since 1968 when they opened for Iron Butterfly. Have been to every concert that came through Toronto or London. In 2017 went to Akron Ohio to see ARW. Was lucky to see Journey to the centre of the earth at Maple Leaf gardens with Rick & a full orchestra, the best line of the night,"we have only rehearsed the album so as an encore,we will do the first side again". Sunday nights concert at the Danforth Music Hall was one of the best concert experiences of my life,Rick was on fire, beautiful music & lovely clever stories. A night to remember.

    A night to remember !

by Adriano Leal on 2019-10-02The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

We bought tickets to Danforth looking for a progressive keyboard concert, but were kindly surprised by a Grumpy Man alone, playing Piano like there’s no tomorrow, and telling funny jokes ! A remarkable evening loaded with Cat Stevens, Lennon & Macartney, Bowie and so much more. The most surprising ? Almost no cell phones filming sometjing they’ll never see again ! Especially because the few were standing portrait :)

    Brilliant!!

by F. S. on 2019-10-02The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

He told wonderful stories about famous musicians and very funny jokes. His piano playing was magnificent. It sounded like the keys were made of water, it just flowed so beautifully. I hope he comes back to Toronto and again to the same venue. I’d love to see him again!!

    Wakeman Rocks The House

by LH on 2019-10-02The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

There’s good and there’s great and then there is Rick Wakeman. Outstanding concert. Not only is Rick a virtuoso on the piano he is an amazingly good story teller. His song selections were supported with a story that was 65% true and 100% interesting. Next time Mr Wakeman is in town don’t miss him.
